Is urban design right for you?

With people spending more and more time inside we are starting to see that reflect in their design styles. People have taken notice of how much they are actually in their house now and that is causing them to want to make it more of their own. I mean if you’re going to be stuck somewhere you might as well make it as visually and functionally enjoyable for you. And that has been the main trend of 2020. Making your space both look like your own but also act like your own. I will be diving into a few of the main styles of interior decorating that are the most popular this year. I decided to start off with urban design as it is gaining serious steam and is an extremely fun style that lets you be creative yet simple.

One of the best parts about urban design is its extremely malleable. You can very easily put your own twist on it while still keeping that urban feel. Urban interior is inspired by many different types such as, contemporary, industrial and mid-century but it has its own specific features that make it what it is! One of the main features is that even though it has heavy industrial roots it maintains its own softer, less edgier features that make it feel less business and more escape from the hustle and bustle. There are many features that make this possible. Urban design focuses on lots of Natural light, with soft neutral colors and plush furniture. A nice mix of wood, metals and brick is a mainstay of this style. This style is extremely popular for people living in the city or who want that city, urban feel while living in the country or suburbs.

The main goal of Urban design is to create a relaxing, calming but gorgeously decorated home with neutral colors tying everything together. A lot of people use oversized pieces mixed with small lighting or art pieces for visual appeal to make up for the lack of bright colors. Neutral colored natural material rugs over a beautiful hardwood floor is a common feature of this design. To further appeal to the eye metals like silver, gold and bronze can be added in things like mirrors. Plants and botanicals are great additions to an urban design. It’s also a great way to bring color into a neutral dominant design. And with the abundance of style and appearance of plants this is a great way to tailor the look to you and your personality.

Each room doesn’t have to be the same but there needs to be a slight continuity throughout the home so it can flow nicely. Matching the color of walls, or furniture, or accents is a great way to do this. If you don’t wanna match colors, patterns and textures are another great way to keep everything flowing nicely. Lastly, you just have to make a statement. Remember this is a reflection of you and your style. Be bold and be you. In the end it doesn’t matter what anyone else feels about your living space as you are the one living in it. Take a chance, if you like a piece get it and there will be a way to fit it into your design somehow. Stay tuned for more features of great design styles in 2020
